Three killed in Pendang accident involving car and motorcycles


PENDANG: Three people, including a married couple, were killed in an accident involving three vehicles on Jalan Alor Pudak - Titi Haji Idris on Thursday (Dec 26) night.

Pendang District Police Chief, Superintendent Rodzi Abu Hassan, stated that the victims were aged 14, 34, and 52.

He said the Traffic Police Station of the Pendang District Police Headquarters received information about the fatal accident involving a Proton Wira car and two motorcycles.

"Initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred at about 11.20pm when a 31-year-old driver was driving a Proton Wira from Ayer Hitam towards Sungai Tiang, Pendang.

"Upon reaching the scene, a teenager riding a motorcycle overtook the car on the right side of the road and collided with another motorcycle ridden by a couple from the opposite direction," he said in a statement on Friday (Dec 27).

He added that as a result of the collision, the pillion rider, who worked as a food stall assistant, was thrown into the right lane and was hit by the car moving straight.

"All the riders and the pillion were pronounced dead at the scene, while the car driver was uninjured," he said.

According to him, the teenager died from injuries to the head, face, left hand, and leg.

The motorcycle rider died from head, face, and right thigh injuries, while his wife died from head and face injuries.

He added that the bodies of all three victims were sent to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) for post-mortem examinations to determine the cause of death.

Rodzi informed that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
