Victims’ families to get financial help


MELAKA: Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has said it will provide appropriate assistance to the families of two students who were involved in a fatal accident on the North-South Expressway yesterday.

UTeM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Massila Kamalrudin said the university would also assist in the process of transporting the remains of Nurul Syafiqah Nasruddin and Nurhanis Afryna Azizan, both aged 19, to their respective hometowns in Gemencheh, Negri Sembilan and Muadzam Shah, Pahang.

“All UTeM staff members express their sorrow over the deaths of the two students and sympathise with their families.

“The management and UTeM staff are also saddened to receive this news and extend their condolences to the students’ parents and family members,” she said in a statement here yesterday, Bernama reported.

Massila said the university is also making arrangements for death insurance compensation and contributions from the UTeM Student Charity Fund to support the families of the deceased students.
