Ayer Keroh crash: Sibling discharged from hospital, to continue recovery from home, says grandfather

KUALA LUMPUR: The two siblings who endured a horrifying five-vehicle accident at KM204 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound on Monday (Dec 23) are making good progress in their recovery.

Mazupi Abdul Rahman, 64, the paternal grandfather of the siblings, confirmed their condition after they were discharged on Saturday (Dec 28) following surgery.

Both children, Muhammad Uwais Al-Qarni Khairul Ikhwan, 7, and Nur Sofea Humaira Khairul Ikhwan, 4, are now stable and healing, he said.

Mazupi also said their treatment will continue at the Orthopaedics Department in Serdang Hospital and the Psychiatry and Mental Health Department of Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

However, he reported that the siblings are still grieving after learning about the deaths of their parents and youngest sibling in the accident, which involved a tour bus and three other vehicles on Dec 23.

Mazupi assured that their schooling would resume once they are fully recovered, as confirmed by the hospital doctor, and he would handle all their schooling arrangements.

On Wednesday (Dec 25), Muhammad Uwais underwent surgery for his injured right thigh, while Nur Sofea Humaira was operated on for her broken left thigh at Melaka Hospital.

Both were permitted to return home on Saturday evening.

The siblings were among the survivors of the accident that claimed the lives of five members of their family: their parents Khairul Ikhwan Mazupi, 32; and Fadzlenna Ramli, 32; their youngest brother Muhammad Umar, 2; and their maternal grandparents Ramli Ab Wahab, 66; and Fauziah Jaafar, 69.

The accident also took the lives of the tour bus driver Noorisnien Khamid, 56, and a Singaporean passenger Lamrah Asid Ali, 66. – Bernama
