DUI double: Unlicensed Sabah motorist crashes through bank door while drunk


KOTA KINABALU: An allegedly drunk motorist with no driving licence lost control of his car and hit five parked vehicles before crashing through the glass door of a bank on Jalan Mahkamah in Tawau early Sunday (Dec 29) morning.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the bank's door was shattered and several automated teller machines were damaged in the 5.15am incident.

There were no serious injuries in the accident which occurred as the 25-year-old man was heading from town to his house in Tanjung Batu, he added.

"Our investigations found that the driver did not have a driving licence and was under the influence of alcohol," ACP Jasmin said.

The motorist has been detained to help with the investigation under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he added.
