Massive crawl on Johor Causeway, travellers urged to check, plan journeys

JOHOR BARU: Those planning to travel to Singapore now should check and plan their journeys as there is a massive crawl on the Johor Causeway.

The two-hour long jam, which started since 2pm from Singapore's Woodlands checkpoint, has now reached all the way to Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (BSI) in Johor Baru.

At press time, live traffic cameras online show that traffic has backlogged all the way to Johor Baru along the Causeway while the entry into Johor Baru is all clear.

A Home Ministry official said that despite all the vehicle counters open at the BSI, there was a massive influx of vehicles from Singapore's Woodlands checkpoint.

"We hope the public can stagger their journey as the wait can be up to two to three hours to reach Singapore," the official said.

The official said that due to the massive backlog of cars on the causeway, the cars entering BSI were also affected.

They expect the present jam to persist until midnight.

Traffic police have also been alerted around the city area.

At press time, bus passengers are able to clear the Malaysian Immigration but are unable to reach their buses to head to Singapore as many buses are stuck due to the massive jam.

Heavy rain since afternoon is also causing visibility to be affected along the Causeway.

A reader known as Tan said that the Malaysian side seemed to be all smooth flowing but there seemed to be a problem on the Singapore side as not all their counters were open.

"I hope they plan better, especially with New Year just around the corner," she said.
