PETALING JAYA: The east coast of Peninsular Malaysia may get much of the news on floods, but it is Bintulu in Sarawak which actually received the highest amount of total rainfall from 2013 to 2022.
An analysis of figures in the Compendium of Environment Statistics shows that Bintulu’s annual rainfall from 2013 to 2022 added up to 38,610mm, which is the highest in the country over the 10-year period.
Sibu, also in Sarawak, came second at 36,985mm, followed by the Federal Territory of Labuan (36,069mm), Sandakan in Sabah (30,525mm), and Subang in Selangor (30,349mm).
The Compendium, released annually by the Statistics Department, records many other indicators including temperature, floods, earthquakes and fires in Malaysia.
