Police to probe further into snatch theft victim Lim Foong Mei's death

KUALA LUMPUR: Follow-up investigations into the death of Lim Foong Mei will be conducted before authorities decide if the charge against the arrested suspect needs to be changed.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the initial snatch theft suspect had been caught and charged in court before her death.

"The victim had also been allowed to return home from the hospital. Additional checks will be conducted to determine a link between her death and the injuries sustained during the snatch theft."

"Suggestions to change the charge will be made based on the results of these additional checks," he said.

The incident occurred around 6.30am on Oct 7, and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed a motorcyclist snatching her handbag, causing her to fall on the road.

She lay motionless until some passers-by went to her aid a few minutes later.

Lim was then rushed to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for treatment and was placed under observation.
