Residents capture croc in suburb drain

Terrifying find: Civil Defence Force personnel securing the crocodile for transport.

KOTA KINABALU: A 50kg crocodile lurking in the main drain of a suburban township in Sandakan has been successfully captured by local residents.

The Civil Defence Force (APM) was mobilised after being informed of the crocodile’s presence and assisted in securing the reptile, which measured over a metre long.

The capture took place around 7.30pm on Saturday in Bandar Megah along Jalan Labuk.

An APM spokesman confirmed that the crocodile was handed over to rangers from the Sabah Wildlife Department for further action.

The spokesman said there were no reports of any human-crocodile conflict in the area, and no injuries were sustained by those involved in capturing the crocodile.

The APM was alerted by a member of the public who spotted the crocodile in the drain.
