THE abundance of Thailand-registered motorcycles in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan, has given the area a southern Thai feel, Kosmo! reported.

The motorcycles are not only used for business purposes but also to ferry children to school and for work commutes, said the report.

Ahmad Ibrahim, 50, said he often sees Thailand-registered motorbikes, most of which do not have international permits, in his village located about 6km from the ICQS.

He said the motorcycles usually throng the Rantau Panjang area in the mornings.

“Most of the motorcycles are ridden by Thai nationals working here though some are ridden by local residents. It is like a scene in Golok, Thailand,” he said.

Another villager, Asrudi Ghazali, 25, said most people in the district buy motorcycles from Thailand because they are cheaper there.

“Motorcycles with engine capacities of between 100cc and 125cc can be bought for as low as RM3,000 using the names of relatives in Thailand, before being brought across the border.

“Most border folk have blood ties with Thai nationals, so we can easily obtain the motorcycles and bring them over as long as we don’t go past the 2km limit set by the authorities,” he added.

Unfortunately, Asrudi said most of the Thai motorcycles end up permanently in the country as they are sold to locals for as low as RM500 each.

> Actress Raysha Rizrose has begun a new chapter in her life as a mother, having given birth to a baby girl on Sunday, reported Harian Metro.

The joyous news was shared by her sister, fellow actress Nelydia Senrose, on Instagram.

“The little sister who used to follow me everywhere and argue with me now has a baby. Thank you for all the blessings our family has received,” she posted.

Nelydia said she was sure that Raysha and her husband Nabil Jeffri would be great parents.

“May you grow up healthy, beautiful and strong like your mother,” she wrote of her newborn niece.

Raysha and Nabil tied the knot on Feb 22 last year after having been engaged for two months.
