JOHOR BARU: The plane a Johor government delegation to Turkey and Jordan was on has been forced to turn back more than three hours after taking off.
Johor Islamic affairs committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid described his experience in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Dec 31), saying the aircraft had been in the air for almost three and a half hours when technical issues arose.
Also part of the delegation were Muzakarah Committee chairman, National Council for Islamic Affairs (MKI) and State Islamic Religious Council adviser Datuk Dr Nooh Gadut, as well as women, family and community development committee chairman Khairin-Nisa Ismail.
"Our flight from Bahrain (where we were in transit) had to turn back due to technical problems after nearly three and a half hours in the air," he said.
Many people, including Members of Parliament and state assemblymen wished for their safety, Sinar Harian reported.
Mohd Fared, who is also Semerah assemblyman, later said the plane safely landed back at Bahrain International Airport.
"Our next flight is scheduled for 7.30am Bahrain time (12.30 Malaysia time).
"Grateful that everything turned out well," he said.
Mohd Fared, along with the Johor delegation, set off for Turkey and Jordan for a working visit on Dec 23.
In addition to meeting students from Johor studying in the two countries, the delegation also inspected the final preparations for the delivery of RM2mil worth of Bangsa Johor aid to the Palestinian people at Easy Log Air Cargo, Alqastal-Almushatta, Amman, Jordan.
