KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya (UM) has dismissed claims that a lecturer suspended for alleged sexual harassment has been seen visiting the campus.
The university in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 1) said no directive had been issued for the lecturer in question to be present on campus by any faculty or related departments.
It said its investigation found no evidence or witnesses to confirm that the lecturer had been at the university campus during the suspension period.
“The lecturer has been reminded not to attend campus during the suspension period issued.
“UM also ensures that the university consistently prioritises the safety of everyone on campus, especially the students,” read the statement by the university’s corporate communications centre.
Last month, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir ordered UM to conduct an immediate investigation into two allegations of sexual harassment that tarnished the renowned university’s reputation.
Zambry said the order was also issued so that UM would not take the case lightly, to ensure that the case truly received justice.
He added that the ministry had no tolerance for misconduct that was against the country’s laws.
