IPOH: Over 100 buyers of the D’Aman Residensi Apartment had to service their bank loan since 2020 despite the project being incomplete, says Manjoi assemblyman Mohd Hafez Sabri.
He said the project in Meru Raya involves two blocks of a 15-storey apartment complex that was supposed to be completed two years after the sales and purchase agreement was signed in 2017.
Hafez said he had consistently raised this issue during state assembly sessions and that buyers had contacted him to express their frustration.
“They not only have to pay loans or rent for their current living situations but they are also burdened with servicing the bank loans for the apartment,” he added.
When contacted, the state housing and local government committee chairman, Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, stated that work has resumed on-site. She mentioned that the Perak Housing and Property Board is holding monthly meetings with the developer and the buyers’ lawyer to monitor progress closely.
“Currently, there are delays, and the developer is working on updating the work schedule to provide the latest estimated date for the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC). Our target is to obtain the CCC for Block G this year, followed by the completion of construction for Block H,” she explained.
Ng also said that concerning the bank loan issue, the state government has brought it up at the National Affordable Housing Council meeting, urging Bank Negara to consider amending its policy to exempt borrowers from paying interest once a project is officially declared abandoned.
