KOTA TINGGI: A female kayak athlete has died after being involved in a road accident along Jalan Dato Onn in Bandar Penawar here.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Yusof Othman said the deceased has been identified as Nur Hazurah Md Hazahar, aged 21, who was riding a motorcycle in the incident.
“Police received information about a fatal road incident involving two vehicles with one death at the scene at around 4.50pm on Wednesday (Jan 1) evening.
“The incident involved a car driven by a 51-year-old local man and the motorcycle. Investigation found that the car, coming from Bandar Penawar, had changed from the left lane to the right lane to make a u-turn,” he said here on Thursday (Jan 2).
Supt Yusof added that the motorcycle had come from behind which it could not avoid in time and hit the car’s right side where the impact caused the victim to suffer serious head injuries and died at the scene.
“The victim’s body was brought to the Kota Tinggi hospital for a post-mortem,” he said adding that the car’s driver was uninjured in the incident.
In an unrelated case, Supt Yusof said a 21-year-old male motorcyclist also died after being involved in another fatal crash at KM25 along Jalan Kulai-Kota Tinggi here.
He added that the police received information about the incident at around 8.20am on Wednesday morning involving a motorcycle and two cars.
“The incident occurred when a car, coming from Petri Jaya to Kulai, slowed down due to heavy traffic when suddenly a motorcycle hit the back of the car.
“The impact caused the motorcyclist to lose control of his bike, causing him to enter the opposite lane where he was hit by an oncoming car,” he said.
Supt Yusof added the motorcyclist sustained serious head injuries and died while getting treatment at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru.
He said both cases were being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and urged road users to always adhere to road rules for their safety.
