Mentally ill man allegedly trespasses into KL mosque


KUALA LUMPUR: A man, who is suffering from mental illness, allegedly trespassed into a mosque in Taman Tun Dr Ismail during Subuh prayers on New Year's Day.

A 2 minute-46 second video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.

Sources said the man in his late 20s, was driving his car from his home on Jalan U Thant before heading to the mosque while his family members were following in another car.

"Upon arrival, the man barged into the mosque and caused a ruckus while the congregants were preparing to perform the Subuh prayers," sources said.

The video showed that one of the congregants had calmed down the man before his family members ushered him out of the mosque.

The man was handed over to the police, who arrived on scene.

The man was then brought to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) before it was discovered he was previously diagnosed with a mental illness.

Meanwhile, Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood is expected to issue a statement on the incident soon.
