KOTA KINABALU: A 44-year-old woman who went missing on Monday (Dec 30) in a village in Kudat district was found safe by the search party on Wednesday (Jan 1).
The victim, who suffers from schizophrenia, was located in an orchard area in Kampung Garib, about two kilometres from her house, at 4.15pm.
According to the Fire and Rescue Department, they received a call for assistance at 8.55am from the police, where the victim’s family said she left the house at 4am on Monday and had not returned home.
Her disappearance was reported to the police on Tuesday (Dec 31) morning.
"The Department then sent a team of three to the location, about 42km from the Kudat fire station, where an integrated search and rescue (SAR) was initiated with the police, Civil Defence Force, Rela members, and villagers."
"The victim was found by villagers at the nearby orchard at 4.15pm, where she was then handed over to the family," said the Department spokesman.
In a separate incident in Kinarut, Papar, firefighters assisted in carrying another woman in her forties who suffered an ankle injury after slipping into the waters at Kampung Labak waterfall during a recreational outing.
The Papar fire station received the call at 2.05pm on Wednesday and sent four personnel, who had to cross several streams for ten minutes to reach the victim.
"The team, assisted by civilians on-site, used a stretcher to carry the victim to the ambulance, where she was sent to the Papar district hospital for further treatment," said the Department spokesman, adding that the operation ended at 3.20pm.
