KOTA KINABALU: Tun Musa Aman took the oath of office as the 11th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah during a ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu here.
Accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, he arrived at the ceremonial hall at 10.11am yesterday before taking the oath at 10.22am.
Musa, 73, then signed the instruments of office as Yang di-Pertua Negeri, witnessed by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sebli.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor followed with a congratulatory speech and a pledge of allegiance.
Sabah Mufti Datuk Bungsu Jaafar recited prayers for the state’s prosperity under Musa’s leadership.
The Governor left the venue at 10.43am, Bernama reported.
On Dec 17, Musa received his letter of appointment as Yang di-Pertua Negeri from His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.
His term began on Jan 1, 2025 and will run until Dec 31, 2028.
Musa succeeds Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, who concluded his tenure on Dec 31 after serving four terms since Jan 1, 2011.
Hajiji, in his speech, said Sabah will continue to thrive in peace, success and prosperity under Musa’s leadership.
Describing Musa as a unifying figure, Hajiji said he embodies the state’s sovereignty and plays a vital role in fostering unity and harmony within Sabah’s diverse society.
“The esteemed institution of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri will always be revered as a cornerstone of unity and a proud symbol of Sabah’s sovereignty,” he said at Musa’s swearing-in ceremony.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to drive Sabah’s development, and ensure the well-being and prosperity of its people.
Sabah recorded a significant increase in revenue, collecting nearly RM7bil last year, thanks to effective financial management, said Hajiji.
He attributed this remarkable achievement to the dedication and hard work of the state’s leadership and civil service.
