JOHOR BARU: Forty-six illegal foreign workers were detained during simultaneous operations in Batu Pahat, Mersing, Muar, and Segamat starting from midnight on Jan 1.
Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the operations involved enforcement officers from four districts in Johor.
"We want to address the presence of illegal immigrant workers in Johor for violating the Immigration Act and regulations," he said in a statement.
In Batu Pahat, 11 illegal immigrants aged between 23 and 39 were detained following raids on 14 premises.
In Endau, Mersing, nine foreigners aged between 17 and 44 were apprehended at six premises, while 11 illegal immigrants were caught in Chaah, Segamat, at five premises.
"Fifteen foreigners aged between 20 and 53 were detained in Muar involving six premises," said Mohd Rusdi.
Those detained included four Indian male nationals, two women and 15 men from Myanmar, three Thai men and four women, five Bangladeshi men, seven Indonesian men, four Nepalese males, and two Pakistani men.
The illegal foreign workers committed offences under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
"These illegal foreign workers have been sent to the Pekan Nanas Immigration Depot to assist with the investigation and for further action," said Mohd Rusdi.
Fifteen notices have been issued for appearances at the Johor Immigration Department office to assist with the investigation.
