PM: Let things cool down between Zahid and Guan Eng

KUALA LUMPUR: The unity government will allow the situation to calm between Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“On Guan Eng, we have previously calmed things down and there was no issue,” he told reporters after visiting the Lestari Niaga Madani @ Wirawati food court here on Friday (Jan 3).

Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman, was responding to the recent back-and-forth between Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid and Lim.

This was after Lim spoke against Umno for organising a rally on Monday (Jan 6) in support of convicted ex-prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, with PAS saying it would also participate.

Lim said the collaboration would raise eyebrows about the sincerity of Umno’s partnership in the unity government.

Ahmad Zahid responded saying that Lim’s era had passed and it would be better for him to place his trust in DAP’s current leadership without stirring conflict with any allies.

The solidarity gathering is planned at 9am outside the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya.

It is being held in conjunction with the Court of Appeal’s hearing related to an alleged royal addendum order that will allow the jailed former prime minister to serve the rest of his prison term under house arrest.
