Three robbery gang members charged at Johor courts

JOHOR BARU: Three “Gang Atan” members were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with home break-ins and robbery cases.

The accused, Teo Kiam Hong, 48, Mah Mui Fei, 46, and Liew Seong Khan, 42, pleaded not guilty to all charges when they were read before Magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsuddin.

In the first charge, the trio were jointly charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code for stealing a television from a house on Jalan Mutiara Emas 2/17, Taman Mount Austin, on Dec 11, 2024.

In the same court, Teo faced four additional charges under Section 411 of the same Act for receiving stolen goods, including gold jewellery, a bag, a set of video game, stealing an identity card, and keeping a stolen car, at the same location and date.

Teo was also charged under Section 29(1) of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for possessing a vehicle's registration number plate. He allegedly committed this offence at a restaurant on Jalan Mutiara Emas on Nov 12, 2019.

He was also charged under Section 414 with disposing a storage box at a gold shop on Jalan Harmonium on Dec 15, 2024.

Meanwhile, Mah was charged with receiving a stolen identity card at the same house on Jalan Mutiara Emas on Dec 11, 2024, while Liew was accused of disposing stolen pieces of gold jewellery at a gold shop on Jalan Kota Tinggi on Dec 14, 2024.

The cases were handled by Deputy Public Prosecutors Nik Noratini Nik Azman and Siti Aishah Latif.

Hidayah set Feb 14 and 25 for the next mention of the cases and set bail of between RM2,000 and RM6,000 with one surety for each of the offence.

The trio also faced charges in two separate Sessions Courts for drug offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which is a non-bailable offence.

Mah pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail, while Teo and Liew pleaded not guilty before judge Hazeelia Muhammad.

The cases at the Sessions Court were handled by Deputy Public Prosecutors Lydia Salleh, Nurul Syafiqah Sha'ari and Siti Fatimah Mamu while the accused were not represented by lawyers.

Ahmad Kamal Arifin set Feb 4 for the next mention for Mah while Hazeelia set Feb 4 for the next mention for Teo and Liew.
