SHAH ALAM: The public has been asked to help provide any information that could lead to the recovery of a wheel that caused an accident in Ayer Keroh that killed seven people.

The country's sole commercial inspection agency, Puspakom Sdn Bhd, asked the public to share any image, video or information of wheel that came off a bulk cement carrier on the North South Expressway near Ayer Keroh, Melaka at around 8.30pm on Dec 23, 2024.

The detached wheel sparked a five-vehicle accident that killed seven people and injured 33 others.

Puspakom CEO Mahmood Razak Bahman said the exhibit is critical for authorities to compile a full report of the incident.

Typically, all parts and debris from major accidents are sent to Puspakom for exhibition, but in this case, the wheel could not be found.

He said the wheel has a rim diameter of 22.5 inches, and when combined with a fully inflated tyre, will weigh more than 100kg. On its own, the steel rim is believed to weigh around 50kg.

"This exhibit is critical in assisting investigations, so that the families of the victims as well as the public can get a measure of certainty and closure over this tragedy," said Mahmood.

Those with information about the incident can contact the police, or Puspakom at 03-5101 7000.

Dashcam footage from a passing motorist shared by Puspakom showed the wheel on the fast lane of the expressway.
