Senior citizen killed in car-MPV collision in Kluang


KLUANG: A 75-year-old man was killed in a road accident involving a car and a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) at KM76 on Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said the accident occurred at 2.30pm on Friday (Jan 3).

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the 75-year-old man lost control of his car while travelling from Machap to Simpang Renggam.

“The vehicle veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an MPV.

“The driver of the car suffered severe head and bodily injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement here on Saturday (Jan 4).

ACP Bahrin added that, meanwhile, the MPV driver, a 42-year-old man, along with his passengers, sustained minor injuries.

“The MPV included three Singaporean women and five locals (three women and two men), aged between 58 and 91.

“All injured parties received medical treatment at a private clinic in Simpang Renggam,” he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The Kluang police urge road users to exercise caution and courtesy to prevent such incidents.
