Senior cop behind fatal SUV accident

SHAH ALAM: The driver of a sports utility vehicle that collided with a motorcyclist, resulting in the rider’s death in Jeram, Kuala Selangor, was confirmed to be a senior police officer at Bukit Aman.

A statement has been recorded from the officer, who was on holiday at the time of the incident that happened at Jalan Klang-Teluk Intan on Tuesday, said Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

Based on a video recording that went viral on social media, he said it is believed that the officer might have lapsed into micro sleep while driving.

“The officer was also injured and is still being treated in hospital.

“We have done a urine test, which proved to be negative. We will examine the need to make an arrest or otherwise.

“We will complete the investigation with witnesses to the incident, assisted by dashcam footage we have obtained and closed-circuit television footage from a house in the area,” he said, Bernama reported.
