Stop politicising Najib's pardon issue, says Khaled Nordin

PETALING JAYA: Stop politicising the issue of a pardon for former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib, says Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin (pic).

"Umno’s commitment to fighting for justice for Datuk Seri Najib is clear and will not waver. This will be done constitutionally and will not deviate from the legal process. The pardon process for Datuk Seri Najib is not a political tool for any party. Using it as a bid for popularity is highly immoral," he said.

"The party respects the royal wisdom and will always act constitutionally," added Mohamed Khaled.

Mohamed Khaled added that Umno’s loyalty to Najib is based on his significant contributions to the nation and the people during his leadership as the party’s president and prime minister.

"Umno does not abandon those who have been loyal to it, especially a former president. Despite any shortcomings and weaknesses, Najib’s vast contributions to the homeland and the nation cannot be denied,” he said.

On Friday (Jan 3), Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki announced that the party will not proceed with the rally planned for Monday (Jan 6).

This comes after a statement from Istana Negara and advice from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

He affirmed Umno’s respect for the King’s constitutional authority under Article 42(1) and (2) regarding Najib’s case, highlighting the party’s commitment to upholding the monarchy and the rule of law.

The rally, initially planned to support Najib’s bid for a pardon, had drawn bipartisan backing, including from PAS.
