‘We can only helplessly accept’

PETALING JAYA: “I’m here today to bring my daughter home and accompany her on her final journey”, said the father of dead teenager Yap Xin Yuan, reported China Press.

The father, who only asked to be called Yap, had arrived alone at the Banting Hospital morgue in Selangor at around 8am yesterday to claim his daughter’s remains.

He then proceeded directly to the crematorium to handle her final rites.

During an interview with the media, he said that he and his wife have three daughters, and the deceased was their eldest.

Expressing deep sorrow, he said it was difficult to accept his daughter’s passing, especially after seeing her disfigured remains this morning.

He was unable to recognise her face when claiming the body.

“Now that my daughter has passed, the family can only helplessly accept this harsh reality,” he said.

He briefly added that all arrangements for his daughter’s final rites were entrusted to the funeral service provider, with her remains sent to the Cheras crematorium for cremation.

Xin Yuan’s memorial service will be held at the Jing An Memorial Village in Kajang today.

According to an obituary shared by the family, the wake will be from 11am to 10pm, while the memorial service will start at 8pm.

The internment of her ashes will be held this Sunday.

On Monday, a body was found in a river in Banting. A DNA test confirmed that it was the missing teenager’s body.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan was quoted as saying that three suspects, including her boyfriend, were detained and have been remanded until Sunday.

However, the remand order might be extended, added Comm Hussein.

The case has now been classified as murder.

Xin Yuan was reported missing on Dec 19 after lion dance practice at a basketball court in Batu 11 Cheras.
