BATU PAHAT: Police confiscated drugs worth RM96,000 and arrested a 24-year-old man believed to be part of a drug smuggling syndicate, here.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the arrest was made during a raid on Jan 2, at 11.30am.
“Officers from the Batu Pahat Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department stormed a house in Jalan Simpang Lima, Batu Pahat, arresting a 24-year-old man and seizing drugs believed to be methamphetamine (syabu) weighing 3,080 grams with an estimated value of RM96,000,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (Jan 5).
ACP Shahrulanuar added that preliminary urine tests confirmed the suspect was positive for methamphetamine use. However, checks revealed no prior criminal record.
“Investigations also revealed the syndicate's modus operandi involved smuggling drugs into Malaysia as a transit point before distributing them to neighbouring countries in the south.
“The syndicate is believed to have been active since early December 2024,” he added.
During the raid, police confiscated methamphetamine in three packages, weighing 1,010 grams, 1,030 grams, and 1,040 grams, each valued at RM32,000.
In total, the seized drugs could potentially supply approximately 6,160 users.
Additionally, a motorcycle worth an estimated RM3,000 was seized, bringing the total value of confiscated items to RM99,000.
The suspect has been remanded for five days, from Jan 3 to Jan 7, for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He is also being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same act for drug abuse.
