PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Razak's daughter has poked fun at police roadblocks being set up in Putrajaya to hinder the planned solidarity rally for the jailed former prime minister.
Nooryana Najwa Najib pointed out the irony of this happening under the Madani government.
"In this era of 'reformasi'? Will we get to pass if we wear a Bersih shirt?" Nooryana Najwa Najib asked in an Instagram story on Sunday (Jan 5).
Police had previously set up roadblocks to prevent people from joining rallies, including the Bersih rallies during Najib's tenure as Prime Minister.
Earlier on Sunday, the police announced that action would be taken against those attending the planned solidarity rally for Najib at the Palace of Justice on Monday (Jan 6), with roadblocks and additional screenings to be conducted.
Umno officially cancelled its rally plans following a statement from Istana Negara on Friday (Jan 3), while Opposition party PAS will proceed with the gathering.
The event was planned to coincide with the Court of Appeal's hearing regarding an alleged royal addendum order that might allow Najib to serve the remainder of his prison term under house arrest.
In 2022, Najib was handed a 12-year sentence after being found guilty of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering involving RM42mil siphoned from SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
He was also fined RM210mil.
However, in February 2024, the Pardons Board decided to commute Najib’s jail term from 12 years to six and reduce the fine to RM50mil.
