KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan chief Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic) does not wish to dwell on political debates but instead focuses on the mandate given to him.
He stated that his selection as Sabah Pakatan chief followed the proper procedures, resulting in a decision that deserves respect.
“And I believe all parties within Pakatan uphold democratic practices. But of course, like all elections, there are bound to be those who want to make petitions," he said.
Benedick said political debates do not help the state or the people.
“We can talk about politics another time,” he said.
When asked if he would consider leaving the Pakatan coalition if this issue was not resolved, he said he would not answer.
On Saturday (Jan 4), Sabah PKR chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the coalition's presidential council had not endorsed Benedick’s appointment.
He said the top coalition leadership is aware that Benedick, who is also United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) president, won the election based on a report submitted during Sabah Pakatan's annual general meeting on Dec 1, 2024.
