Man, 75, dies after SUV overturns on NSE


TANGKAK: A 75-year-old man was killed after his vehicle crashed and overturned at KM171 on the southbound lane of the North-South Expressway here.

Tangkak Fire and Rescue Department station chief Rafiah Aziz said that the rescue team received the distress call at 4.02pm on Saturday (Jan 4).

“A total of 17 firemen from the Tangkak and Jasin Bestari fire stations were deployed to the scene to conduct the rescue operation.

“The victim was driving an SUV and was pinned in the driver’s seat,” she said in a statement here on Sunday (Jan 5).

Rafiah added that the victim was removed using rescue tools. He was later pronounced dead at the location by the medical team.

“The body was handed over to the police for further action,” she said.

Meanwhile, Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib confirmed the incident and shared that two vehicles were involved in the accident.

“The accident occurred when the driver of an SUV, travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Muar, reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

“The SUV struck the rear of a lorry before veering off and crashing into the left guardrail,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said, adding that all road users are urged to drive cautiously to prevent such tragic incidents.
