PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for several Malaysian states, including Kedah and Pulau Pinang.
The Meteorological Department issued the warning at 5.30pm on Jan 5.
The warning was prompted by signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, either imminent or expected to last more than an hour.
This short-term warning remains valid for up to six hours from issuance.
Affected areas include Kedah (Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu) and Pulau Pinang.
Perak and Pahang's Cameron Highlands are also on alert.
Selangor, along with the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, are expected to experience adverse weather conditions.
In Johor, Batu Pahat, Pontian and Johor Bahru will be affected.
Sarawak's regions, including Sarikei (Pakan and Julau), Sibu, Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu (Tatau) and Limbang, are forecasted to face severe weather.
In Sabah, the Interior regions (Sipitang, Tenom and Nabawan), as well as Tawau and Sandakan, will experience storms until 9pm on Sunday, Jan 5, 2025.
