PETALING JAYA: PAS Youth wants action to be taken against those responsible for allegedly concealing the existence of the royal addendum in connection to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s case.
In a statement, PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddin said concealing the existence of the addendum is an act of treachery against the royal institution and the mandate given by the people.
"PAS Youth views the claims that there are individuals within the government who hid the royal addendum seriously," he said in a statement on Monday ( Jan 6).
"This has tarnished the principle of sovereignty of the law and the people’s trust in the government," he added.
PAS Youth will also ensure that police reports are lodged to prompt investigations into the matter.
"Legal action must be taken immediately to ensure that the government’s integrity will not continue to be affected and those responsible are penalised," he said.
Afanan said PAS Youth will also mobilise a large gathering of youth to send a signal to the government that the people will not compromise with any treachery against the royal institution and the people’s mandate.
He also called on Malaysians and the youth wings of political parties including ruling coalitions such as Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan to continue to stand together to defend the sovereignty of the law and the royal institution.
He said any action that goes against this must be opposed in order to preserve the country’s harmony and stability.
A letter signed by the Comptroller of the Pahang Sultan's Household Datuk Ahmad Khirrizal Ab Rahman to Najib's son Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib confirmed the existence of a royal addendum to Najib's royal pardon.
Earlier, Najib succeeded in obtaining leave from the Court of Appeal in a split 2-1 decision in his appeal relating to his claims of a royal addendum order that would allow him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
In the majority decision, the appellate court overturned the High Court's dismissal of Najib's application for leave to initiate judicial review over the prison time imposed on him in the SRC International Sdn Bhd trial.
