Takiyuddin seeks watching brief for Opposition MPs in Najib's appeal hearing

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has addressed the three-member panel of the Court of Appeal presiding of former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak's appeal against the dismissal of his bid to serve the remainder of his six-year prison sentence under house arrest, based on his claim that a royal addendum to his royal pardon exists.

The PAS secretary-general said that he, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, Beluran MP Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee and Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar are in court to represent MPs due to the issue that would be brought up in court.

He said during the Prime Minister's Question Time in Parliament, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had refused to elaborate on Najib's addendum issue, citing that it was sub judice to do so.

"What we understand from the government's position was for us to come (to court) to understand the issue.

"We seek to conduct a watching brief in the proceedings," Takiyuddin said.

The hearing, originally scheduled for Dec 5, 2024, began at 9.25am before a three-member bench comprising Justices Azizah Nawawi, Azhahari Kamal Ramli and Mohd Firuz Jaffril.
