Feb 18 court date for GISB-linked worker's bid to have charges of hurting four kids dropped

SEREMBAN: Two Sessions Courts here have fixed Feb 18 to hear the outcome of a representation by a 20-year-old childcare assistant at a GISB Holdings-linked care home accused of causing injury to young girls.

In the first case before judge Surita Budin, deputy public prosecutor Noraziha Asmuni told the court that her team had received a representation from the defence on Dec 26.

"The state prosecution team is now (studying) the application and it will be forwarded to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC).

"We hope to get another date so we can present the outcome of the representation," she said on Tuesday (Jan 7).

In a separate court before judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi, DPP Intan Noorashikin Nasarudin told the court that the prosecution had received the representation on Dec 27.

She also told the court that this would be referred to the AGC.

Puteri Nurin Amalina Ahmad Daud had claimed trial on Sept 19 to four charges of causing injury to the arms of four girls aged five to six at a centre near here using a hot metal spoon.

She allegedly committed the offences in August.

Puteri Nurin Amalina was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.

Mohd Hanif Hassan appeared for the defence.

The accused is currently at Sg Udang prison as she has been unable to raise the RM80,000 bail amount.

The case is related to the large-scale Ops Global carried out by the authorities in two states in September where hundreds of children were rescued from care homes linked to GISB Holdings.

The initial raids were conducted at 18 care homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.

A total of 402 children, comprising 201 boys and 201 girls aged between one and 17, were rescued.

They were believed to be victims of abuse, or abandoned.

A total of 171 suspects, aged between 17 and 64, were arrested, including a teacher and dormitory caretakers.
