Johor-Singapore Economic Zone to enhance economic activities, says MB

JOHOR BARU: Not only will the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) bring more economic opportunities, but it will also leave a positive impact on Johor’s development, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar believes that the zone will open more doors for businesses and improve economic ties between Malaysia and Singapore.

“The JS-SEZ is a strategic move that will leave a positive impact on Johor’s development.

“This is done through the creation of more high-paying job opportunities, increase in investments and strengthening of major sectors in the state,” he said in a Facebook post in reaction to the exchange of the joint agreement between Malaysia and Singapore to develop the JS-SEZ on Tuesday (Jan 7).

Onn Hafiz said he is anticipating a positive transformation for Johor, adding that he hoped that all plans could be implemented well in order to benefit the people in Johor and the rest of the country.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Singapore counterpart Lawrence Wong witnessed the exchange of the joint agreement, which took place during the 11th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat in Putrajaya.

During the event, Anwar also described the JS-SEZ as a unique initiative where two countries work together as a team to promote both nations and attract investments.

The highly-anticipated exchange of agreement comes close to a year after a memorandum of understanding was signed by Malaysia and Singapore on Jan 11, 2024 in a historical move to jointly develop the JS-SEZ..
