Lorry driver, attendant killed after lorry plunges into ravine


BENTONG: A lorry driver and his attendant were killed after their lorry, carrying a load of iron, plunged into a ravine at KM42.1 of the East Coast Highway towards Kuantan on Monday (Jan 6) night.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations and rescu) Mohd Salahuddin Isa said they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.16pm Monday.

He said personnel from the Bentong Fire and Rescue Station who arrived at the scene then helped to extract the two men who were trapped in the driver's and passenger's sections.

"The operation was also assisted by two search dogs (K9) before the firemen used rescue equipment to remove the victims from the lorry," he said in a statement Tuesday (Jan7).

Mohd Salahuddin said the first victim was extricated from the vehicle at 7.47am Tuesday and the second victim at 9.30am.

Both men were confirmed dead by Health Ministry officials, and their bodies were handed over to the police for further action. - Bernama
