PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Singapore will continue negotiations on several longstanding issues involving airspace, maritime delimitation and water supply, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said the respective technical teams from both countries would discuss the relevant parameters of these issues.
“These are complex issues, and of course, as stated by (Singapore) Prime Minister Lawrence (Wong), our approach is to address them comprehensively or holistically.
“This is so that several matters demanded by Singapore and some by Malaysia are fully considered, and the final resolution must be win-win,” he told a joint press conference at Perdana Putra Complex here on Tuesday (Jan 7).
Anwar stressed that these issues should not disrupt the positive attitudes of both countries towards the existing foundation of their economic, energy, digital, investment and trade ties.
“These negotiations have been ongoing for decades, so I don’t think we need to wait for several more decades. We can always resolve them without waiting for the next annual meeting.
“We agreed that we should have regular brief meetings to review these matters, allowing our technical teams and experts to address them expeditiously,” he said.
Wong also confirmed that they discussed longstanding bilateral issues, including airspace, water, and maritime delimitation.
"These are all important issues for both our countries – we will continue to discuss them holistically and constructively within the overall context of our broader relationship.
"The issues are complex. We have made some progress, but we still need more time to resolve them.
"But we will continue to engage in good faith, and as good neighbours," Wong added.
