Body found in car boot: Lorry driver to be charged tomorrow


JOHOR BARU: The Johor Police have concluded their investigation into the murder of a 28-year-old man, whose body was discovered in the boot of a vehicle left behind on the roadside of KM26 Jalan Jemaluang-Kahang, Mersing, on Dec 28 2024 at 1.50pm.

Johor Police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said a special investigation team from the Johor Criminal Investigation Department arrested two suspects – a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman – less than 24 hours after the body was found.

“The arrests were made on Dec 29 at approximately 4.30am. The investigation papers have been referred to the Johor State Prosecution Director's Office.

“The male suspect will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty upon conviction. The charge will be brought before the Mersing Magistrate’s Court on Jan 9 at 9am,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Jan 8).

Comm Kumar added that, meanwhile, the female suspect has been released on a bond under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code and will serve as a prosecution witness.

Comm Kumar urged the public to avoid speculating on the case to prevent disruption of the legal proceedings.

He also reminded the public to report any information related to criminal activities to the police through the Johor Police Operations Room hotline at 07-2212999.

Earlier, Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani was reported saying that revenge is believed to be the motive behind the murder of a male lorry driver whose body was found inside a car boot at KM26 along Jalan Jemaluang-Kahang.

The victim, aged 28, was found fully clothed inside the boot of a vehicle that he owned, with visible injuries to his neck.
