SEREMBAN: Two Sessions courts here have scheduled a hearing on Feb 18 to hear the outcome of a representation filed by lawyers for a 20-year-old childcare assistant at a GISB Holdings-linked home accused of using a hot metal spoon to burn and injure young girls’ arms.
In the first case before judge Surita Budin, deputy public prosecutor Noraziha Asmuni told the court that her team had received a representation from the defence on Dec 26.
“The state prosecution team is now perusing the application and it will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Chambers.
“We hope to get another date so we can present the outcome of the representation,” she said.
In a separate court before judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi, deputy public prosecutor Intan Noorashikin Nasarudin told the court that the prosecution had also received the representation on Dec 27.
She also told the court that this would be referred to the AGC.The accused, Puteri Nurin Amalina Ahmad Daud, had claimed trial on Sept 19 last year on four charges of causing injury to four girls, ages five to six, at a centre near here.
She allegedly committed the offence in August.
Puteri Nurin Amalina was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act, which carries a maximum 20-year jail term, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, upon conviction.
Mohd Hanif Hassan appeared for the defence.
The accused is currently at the Sungai Udang prison as she has been unable to raise the RM80,000 bail amount.
Puteri Nurin Amalina’s case is related to the large-scale Ops Global carried out by the authorities in two states last September, where hundreds of children were rescued from care homes linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB).
The initial raids were conducted at 18 care homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
A total of 402 children, comprising 201 boys and 201 girls aged between one and 17, were rescued.
They were believed to have been abused or abandoned.
A total of 171 suspects, aged between 17 and 64, were arrested, including a teacher and dormitory caretakers.
