THE locally made animated film Dongeng Sang Kancil collected RM5.8mil at the box office as of Jan 5 since its release in cinemas nationwide last year, Harian Metro reported.
Les’ Copaque Production founder and managing director Burhanuddin Md Radzi said the company is targeting a box office collection of RM20mil by the end of the film’s theatrical run.
“The earnings are still modest because most of the audience are children and ticket prices are relatively low.
“At the same time, we are disappointed by some ‘haters’ running campaigns on Facebook discouraging people from watching the film and claiming it is too violent,” he said.
“Nevertheless, we hope the film will continue to attract viewers.”
Dongeng Sang Kancil is Malaysia’s first animated feature to integrate hybrid 3D technology with 2D special effects.
> Composer and KRU member Edry Abdul Halim has revealed a recent incident where his 17-year-old autistic son, Emery, was scolded and treated harshly by a restaurant worker.
Edry described the incident as having left him with a deep emotional scar, Utusan Malaysia reported.
He decided to share the experience to raise awareness about autism, a condition he believes still lacks sufficient understanding among the local community.
“The incident where my son was scolded and treated harshly by the restaurant staff member lasted only two minutes, but the scar and memory will last a lifetime – all because my autistic son wanted to drink water.
“Our society is sometimes not sensitive enough to people with special needs. My intention is not to shame the staff member or make the restaurant go viral.
“But to see someone being yelled at as if chasing away a dog – that is not the right way to treat individuals with special needs,” he said.
