Malaysia, Singapore pledge stronger bilateral ties


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia and Singapore have issued a joint statement after the conclusion of negotiations on their bilateral relationship, says Wisma Putra.

It said the conclusion reflects the dedication and seriousness of how both nations approach their bilateral relationship.

"In the joint statement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong reaffirmed their commitment to fostering stronger ties based on mutual respect and understanding," said the Malaysian Foreign Ministry’s communication and public diplomacy division in a statement on Wednesday (Jan 8).

"They also expressed their shared aspiration to resolve outstanding issues amicably and emphasised the importance of managing challenges constructively to ensure win-win cooperation, without allowing any single issue to overshadow the broader long-term relationship.

It said the joint statement also included key outcomes such as Singapore's intention to establish consulates in Sabah and Sarawak.
