Woman dies after falling from 23rd floor in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: A woman succumbed to severe injuries after falling from the 23rd floor of a residential building complex in Sandakan on Tuesday (Jan 7).

Sandakan district police chief, Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek, said CCTV footage showed the 47-year-old local woman walking out of the elevator before the fall.

“We received a report about a person falling from Block A, Borneo Cove Residences at Jalan Buli Sim Sim, around 8pm,” he said.

The woman’s body was found sprawled on the walkway leading to the building.

“Initial investigation revealed that the victim, who is not a resident of the area, had not visited anyone’s home. The last footage showed her exiting the elevator on the 23rd floor,” he added.

The victim, who sustained severe head and leg injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was later sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for a post-mortem.

“We are investigating the case and have classified it as a sudden death report. The victim’s next of kin have been contacted,” said Abdul Fuad.
