JOHOR BARU: An ex-convict, who had earlier served jail time for drug offences, has once again been arrested for being involved in drug repackaging and distribution activities.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the 29-year-old man was one of five youths who were arrested in two raids conducted at 12.30am last Sunday (Jan 5) and 8pm on Wednesday (Jan 8).
“The three men and two women, aged 24 to 29, were arrested in two separate locations in Seri Alam and Iskandar Puteri.
“They have been using a condominium in Seri Alam to store and repack drugs into powdered drink packets and blisters packs since September last year,” he said during a press conference at the state police headquarters here on Thursday (Jan 9).
The arrests led police to seize drugs weighing a total of 96.8kg worth RM13.5mil, consisting 73.5kg of ecstasy powder, 20.3kg ketamine, 2.9kg or 9,750 pieces of eramin pills 8g or 26 pieces of ecstasy pills, he added.
“Drugs were brought in from out of Johor to be repackaged for the local market. We believe the seized drugs could cater to 357,126 drug users,” he said.
Besides that, police also seized three cars, a motorcycle, a watch, jewellery, RM550 and a company bank account with RM87,741.80.
“The mastermind of the group and two other suspects tested positive for ketamine.
“Check showed that the mastermind was previously sent to prison for drug distribution in 2021 and was released in July 2022,” said Comm Kumar, adding that the suspects have been placed under remand until Jan 11 to aid in investigation.
He added that police are also on the hunt for one Chang Siew Yin, 38, from Melaka, to assist with the investigations.
