Freight forwarder fined RM190,000 for unlicensed diesel

SEREMBAN: A freight forwarding company has been fined RM190,000 by the Sessions Court here after it pleaded guilty to possessing 36,654 litres of diesel without a valid license.

Judge Surita Budin also ordered the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to confiscate a vessel owned by KIJ Global Sdn Bhd, on which the diesel was found.

"After perusing the facts of the case and taking into account public interest, the court fines the offender a sum of RM190,000 for the offence," she said.

She further ordered for the proceeds from the sale of the subsidised diesel amounting to RM106,296.60 to be confiscated too.

KIJ Global, represented by its director Nazrulkamal Mohammad, was charged with committing the offence around 9am on Nov 10, 2023 at a jetty in Pasir Panjang, Port Dickson.

The company was charged under Rule 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 read together with Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, punishable under Section 22(2) of the same legislation.

Any corporate entity or organisation which violates the provision can be fined up to RM2mil upon conviction.

Nor Alimah Mohd Sanusi prosecuted on the ministry's behalf.
