Man abducted, beaten up by friends over RM37,000 debt

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A man was abducted and beaten by his friends in a public area for not repaying RM37,000 that he borrowed from them

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan said the victim’s 29-year-old girlfriend reported the incident last Thursday (Jan 2) at around 11.23pm.

"The woman stated in her report that she was with the 34-year-old victim at a restaurant in Taman Nusa Bestari when a group of local men approached them at around 9pm.

"The group then beat the victim and abducted him using a car before fleeing the scene," he said at a press conference held at Iskandar Puteri police headquarters on Thursday (Jan 9).

ACP Kumarasan added that at around 1.20am on Friday (Jan 3), police arrested five suspects, aged 20 to 29, and rescued the victim in Taman Nusa Bestari.

"The investigation found the motive of this case is debt. These five suspects are not loan sharks, but the victim, who is their friend, borrowed money from them and did not pay them back," he said.

ACP Kumarasan added that checks on the suspects found one of them has a prior record for drugs, but all five tested negative for drugs.

"Four of the suspects have been charged at the Johor Baru Sessions Court, where they claimed trial for three charges under Section 342 of the Penal Code, Section 324 of the same Act, and Section 323 of the same Act," he said.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, a report lodged by a domestic abuse victim led police to seize 81.6 grams of drugs from a man.

ACP Kumarasan said on December 27 last year, a 29-year-old woman reported that her 24-year-old boyfriend, with whom she had been living for a year, abused her.

He added the victim claimed in her report that the suspect had poured hot oil and hit her with a phone charging cable, causing bodily injuries at around 3.30pm on December 21, 2024, at their home in Bandar Selesa Jaya.

"Based on this information, police arrested the suspect at the scene, where further checks found he has two previous records and also tested positive for drugs.

"Further checks at the scene led police to seize 15.9 grams of cannabis and 65.7 grams of heroin," he said, adding that police also seized a smartphone, a phone charging cable, and a backpack.

ACP Kumarasan added the suspect was charged in court on January 3 for offences under Section 326 of the Penal Code, Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, and Section 6 of the same Act, for which he claimed trial.
