PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has been chosen as one of the Home Ministry’s departments to pioneer using artificial intelligence (AI) technology in its operations.
Its director-general Admiral Maritime Datuk Mohd Rosli Abdullah expects the adoption of AI technology to enhance operational efficiency and using modern technology to safeguard national security.
"AI is a new approach that must be given attention by all agency personnel, particularly the senior management.
"This is because AI will serve as a catalyst for operational reform within the agency," he said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 9).
Meanwhile, Mohd Rosli said that the agency has been allocated RM400mil in 2025 to repair and maintain its maritime and aerial assets.
He also stressed the importance of strategic partnerships with foreign enforcement agencies, including those in Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore, as well as the United States Coast Guard and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
"Close cooperation is crucial for strengthening the security of the country’s waters against various transnational threats, including sharing information on attempts by illegal immigrants to enter the country," he said. - Bernama
