KOTA KINABALU: Sabahans have been urged to put aside their political differences and work together to steer the state to higher economic heights.
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the people of Sabah have what it takes to succeed and bring the state to soar economically and socially, but they have to work together and focus on what is important.
He said instead of fighting in politics, it would do the state more good if they strived to do their jobs better, in whichever role they are entrusted with.
“In fact, the best politics is when you do well in your job, not by trying to bring down a government over and over again,” he said.
Masidi said this kind of mentality must stop and the people must allow leaders and the current government time to bring development to the state.
He said this when launching the lion dance heads handing over ceremony at the Hakka Hall here, on Thursday (Jan 9).
Speaking of the Chinese culture and the Tiong Hua community, he said this community has contributed immensely to the economic development of the state.
“We are very thankful for their contributions and like I mentioned earlier, we have what it takes to succeed,” said Masidi.
He said in Sabah, most people celebrate all festivities as their own, regardless of race and religion and such practice must continue.
He said there is no other state in the country which has the kind of tolerance, understanding and harmony, which is why Sabahans must work hard to preserve what it has as it is a unique trait that helps Sabah develop in various aspects.
On matters of infrastructure, Masidi said the state government was moving hard to improve and solve the issues that are plaguing the people, such as power, water and roads.
However, he said both the state and federal governments must work together to solve the matters at hand because most of these infrastructures were the responsibilities of both the state and federal governments to oversee.
