PETALING JAYA: The promotional video for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY) will be segmented into zones, each featuring two to three states showcasing their top attractions, says Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Sri Tiong King Sing.
This decision follows controversy over the initial 41-second launch video for VMY 2026, which faced criticism for not featuring more local attractions attractions.
"The videos will be redone to better highlight the attractions, food, and offerings from different states in the country, instead of quickly jumping from one to another.
"For example, if it is about Perak, it will showcase the best of Perak. Similarly, if it is about Pahang, you will see the destinations, food, and what they have to offer," he explained.
He emphasised that the launch video was not an official promo, urging the public not to jump to conclusions or politicise the issue, which could create confusion and tension on social media.
He made these remarks while addressing reporters after officiating the Engagement Session with Tourism Industry Players 2025 (Central Region) at One World Hotel on Thursday (Jan 9).
He added that striving for harmony and unity among all communities is essential to generate confidence in the country and its people.
The Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister clarified that the recently launched 41-second tourism promotional montage, which sparked controversy for omitting mosque elements, was merely a brief and concise launch video.
Earlier, the short video uploaded on Tourism Malaysia's official Facebook page featured several popular tourist destinations, including Petaling Street (Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown), Central Market, Mulu Caves (Sarawak), Langkawi Skywalk (Kedah), Batu Caves (Selangor), and an old church in Melaka.
