17 nabbed in probe of illegal land transfer cartel

KUALA LUMPUR: Seventeen people including several Klang District and Land Office (PTD Klang) employees have been arrested in an ongoing investigation of a criminal cartel involved in illegal land transfers.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said investigations found that there have been “insiders” involved in cartel activities.

“Seven of the suspects are PTD employees,” he said here Friday (Jan 10).

Comm Ramli was asked to comment on the arrests following a report lodged by an assistant district officer in November regarding the illegal transfer of land.

A Bahasa Malaysia daily reported that seven cases were currently being investigated involving 8.49ha (21 acres) of land worth RM7,101,000.
