Care centre inmate charged with murder sent for mental observation


IPOH: An inmate of a private care centre charged with causing the death of an inmate there was ordered by the Sessions Court here to be sent to Bahagia Ulu Kinta Hospital for mental observation on Friday (Jan 10).

Judge Azizah Ahmad ordered Muhammad Firdaus Zohare, 32, to be placed for observation at the hospital for a month and set Feb 18 for mention.

She made the order following a request by Muhammad Firdaus, unrepresented, who told the court that he had been a mental patient for the past eight years.

Muhammad Firdaus was charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code with causing the death of Muhammad Afiq Wafiuddin Lokeman, 25, at the Fitrah Nursing Care Centre in Ipoh at 7.45am on Dec 31, 2024.

The charge, under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code, provides imprisonment for up to 30 years and a fine upon conviction.

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Vitthiyeswary. - Bernama
