Company owner remanded over false claims for non-existent work

KOTA KINABALU: A company owner has been remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly submitting false claims amounting to RM300,000 for non-existent maintenance work.

Labuan Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad issued a five-day remand order on the male suspect, in his 30s, effective until Jan 15, following a request by MACC on Friday (Jan 10).

According to a source, the suspect was arrested around 5pm on Thursday (Jan 9) when he arrived at the Labuan MACC office to provide a statement.

“Initial investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly committed the offence in 2022.

“He reportedly submitted claims for wiring maintenance work at a government agency, despite no such work being carried out,” the source said.

Labuan MACC director Muhammat Azis Malmod confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
