KUALA LUMPUR: There were 41,701 commercial crime cases last year involving over RM3bil in losses, says Bukit Aman's Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID).
Its director Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said cheating cases made up a large part of the total, with over RM2bil in losses from 37,240 reports.
Online scams accounted for RM1.574mil in total losses, he told a press conference at CCID headquarters here on Friday (Jan 10).
There were 7,662 cases of e-commerce fraud, he added.
"In total, we took 16,813 cases or 40.3% of the total to court, with the rest still under investigation," he added.
Comm Ramli said the prosecution rate was satisfactory, considering the complex nature of commercial crime.
"If it is a straightforward case an investigating officer might be able to (bring) a charge in about a month or so.
"But we have cases that go on for three years because of new evidence," he said.
